Printfriends was a pioneering online shortform comedy series starring a colourful collection of fingerpuppet characters. The twist was - all the characters were made from paper, and their designs could be downloaded and printed out for the audience to make and interact with. The characters had profiles across multiple social media platforms and were designed to be interactive.
Alongside the series - in which the characters went on time-travelling, villain-thwarting musical adventures - were 'How to' craft videos, which showed the audience how to make the puppets, and playfully parodied British children's craft shows of the 1960s.
It was produced by Owen Matthews for Fremantle Media, and was nominated for an International Emmy award for Best Digital Fiction.
